When free and fair elections were on the line in Douglas County, Colorado—a suburban area in Lauren Boebert’s district—Colorado Turnout Project took action.

MAGA GOP leaders attempted an alarming end run around the values and priorities of the people of CO. The far-right Commissioners forced a vote on a “home rule” proposition that would give them more power to ignore state laws that protect folks from discrimination, ensure the right to vote, and fund high quality universal public education.

Our friends at the Colorado Democratic Party called this out as a “corporate-funded MAGA power grab” that could threaten fair elections, support for unions, and even the state minimum wage.

Here’s how Colorado Turnout Project supported the CO Democratic Party’s effort to defeat this ballot measure:

  • Making a max donation that we can contribute to a county party, $3,875, to DougCo Dems
  • Building out a GOTV texting operation to reach Democratic voters

And on Election Day, we scored a big victory for democracy that bodes well for the 2026 Midterms.

By a whopping 42% margin, voters in Douglas County, Colorado, rejected the cynical MAGA power grab that could have undermined state law and threatened fair elections in a key part of Lauren Boebert’s congressional district.

A huge 71% majority voted against Douglas County’s underhanded “home rule” proposition, while only 29% favored it.

Your support made a crucial impact on this outcome.

Your support made a crucial impact on this outcome.

We are powerful and can make real change when we come together to fight and defeat MAGA from the ground up.

The far-right Commissioners in Douglas County have already vowed to fight on, reaffirming their commitment to try and jam home rule through as soon as possible, despite voters overwhelmingly opposing it.

We need to be ready to beat this back when they try again. And while this was undoubtedly a big victory, the fight isn’t over.

Lauren Boebert needs Douglas County to remain in Congress—and with the Home Rule election results, she should be worried.
